COTTON

Since 2021, we have used 100% certified organic cotton for all our cotton items. This natural, breathable material is ideal for everyday wear and offers genuine comfort. Our organic cotton, which is cultivated without the use of pesticides or genetically modified seeds, is gentle on people and the environment.

Organic cotton is...

...suitable for everyday use, soft and supple
...breathable and has good moisture absorption properties.
...kind to the skin and antistatic
...robust and hard-wearing, making it particularly durable.

  • Dark and colourful fabrics should be washed separately at a maximum temperature of 30°C.
  • For knitted items, please refer to the care label to check whether they need to be washed on a delicate cycle. Only wash fibre blends on a gentle cycle (delicate wash).
  • A classic colour detergent can be used.
  • Iron with steam at moderate heat (maximum 150 °C).
  • Do not dry in direct sunlight.

Cotton woven fabrics are highly versatile, ranging from robust materials like twill and corduroy to lightweight fabrics such as muslin, seersucker and poplin. They are always made from pure GOTS-certified organic cotton, blended with elastane or viscose to achieve greater flexibility or softness, as required. Twill and corduroy fabrics are typically made from 100% cotton, though some contain around 2% elastane for added elasticity.

Care:

  • To ensure durability, cotton woven fabrics should be washed on a gentle cycle.
  • Twill and corduroy may bleed colour initially, so it is best to wash them separately or with similar colours.
  • It is possible to iron these fabrics, but corduroy should always be ironed inside out. Muslin and poplin are easy to care for and can be ironed or steamed for a beautiful finish, preferably when slightly damp and at a low temperature.

Knitwear is incredibly versatile, making it a great material for layered looks.
In winter, we focus on chunky knitwear, while in summer we focus on light knit tops made from fine yarns. In between, however, there is knitwear in almost every style.

We mostly use 100% organic cotton for our fine knitwear. Jacquard knitwear is typically made from a blend of 70% organic cotton and 30% lyocell (TENCEL™).

Care:
Compared to woven fabrics such as jersey, knitwear is more susceptible to mechanical stress due to its loose weave. Therefore, it is essential to use the washing machine's delicate, wool or hand wash programme and only half-fill the machine.

If we had to choose one fabric, it would probably be cotton jersey. This blend of 95% cotton and 5% elastane is hard to beat when it comes to versatility and suitability for everyday use.

Jersey garments can be worn all year round, but they tend to be quite thin, so they are often combined with knitwear or sweatshirts in the colder months.

Care:

  • As with almost all Blutsgeschwister fabrics, cotton jersey garments should be washed on a gentle cycle.
  • To reduce friction, do not overload the machine.
  • Cotton jersey items may shrink slightly in length when washed. To counteract this, carefully stretch the items lengthwise while they are still wet.

Sweat, velour and terry cloth are all knitted cotton fabrics with different surface textures. With sweatshirt fabric, the soft side is on the inside, whereas with velour and terry cloth, the soft side is on the outside. Sweatshirt fabric usually contains a cotton and elastane blend, while velour and terry cloth are made of cotton or cotton-polyester blends to provide greater dimensional stability.

Care:

  • Sweatshirts are easy to care for and should be washed on a gentle cycle to ensure they last a long time.
  • Velour and terry cloth items should be washed on a special or gentle cycle with a low spin speed. They should then be pulled into shape while wet and hung up to dry, if possible.
  • The pile on velour can be refreshed by carefully steaming or ironing it from the inside.
  • Terry cloth will stay looking good for longer if the washing machine is only half full, and lint can easily be removed after washing with a lint roller.
